SUMMARY:Native American Celebration
DESCRIPTION:View a video of the 2025 Native American Celebration on the River Channel. \nGather by the river for a Native American Cultural Celebration. \n \n1 – 2:30 pm:\nMichael “Laughing Fox” Charette with storytelling for children and flute music. Learn about Laughing Fox. \n\n\nThe RiverFest Native American Celebration is Saturday\, July 26 in the Lakefront Park Bandshell in Hudson. Michael Charette (Laughing Fox) will lead off the program at 1pm Saturday afternoon. He’s an artist\, musician\, writer and performer and a member of the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa (Ojibwe). As a Native American flute player\, he enhances his stories with flute music and storytelling performance. Growing up surrounded by the beauty of Lake Superior and the woodlands led him to dedicate his gifts as an artist to teaching about Indigenous history\, culture and heritage. His work as both a visual and performance artist is varied and tied together by the traditional wisdom of the Anishinaabe people\, which is respectfully incorporated into his work. Laughing Fox captivates audiences with his relaxed style. \n\n\nJoining “Laughing Fox” onstage will be Miskobineshiin (Kevin Soulier). He’s a member of the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa. He’s worked as a vocalist\, singer for Lake Superior Big Top Chautauqua near Bayfield\, WI. Kevin has lent his vocal talent to the Historical Musical “Anishinaabe” presented by The Big Top Chautauqua. \n\n\nThe third guest is Severin Behnen\, musical director at the Lake Superior Big Top Chautauqua. He’s a Los Angeles-based composer and performer whose work spans traditional and experimental musical forms. He has collaborated with a wide range of ensembles including Latin\, Korean\, orchestral and oratorio. In 2022 he composed Butterfly Moon\, a suite for flute and small ensemble with Native American flautist and storyteller Michael Charette. He’s an innovator in multimedia composition\, motion graphics and is currently focused on developing musical scores within interactive 3D environments. \n\n\n  \n 2:30 – 4 pm:\nThe St. Croix Chippewa Indians of Wisconsin with pow-wow dancing\, singing\, drums and storytelling. \n  \n  \n  \n1-4 pm:\nCome and see the Ojibwe Pony. Learn more.\nNative American food Concession by Lisa Mosay family.\nNative American arts and crafts for sale.\nIndigenous books available for purchase from Chapter2 Books. \n  \nProgram Sponsors:

SUMMARY:Invasive Species Control on the St. Croix River - Demonstration & Information
DESCRIPTION:The Minnesota DNR and the Wisconsin DNR are teaming up to stop the spread of Invasive Fish Species such as Silver and Bighead Carp in the upper Mississippi River basin\, including the St. Croix River. Come and see the Minnesota DNR’s Electrofishing Boat demonstration (water conditions permitting). \nThere will also be display booths at the Beach House Pavilion. You will have the opportunity to meet the Aquatics and Fisheries Biologists who are working hard to stop these large and voracious fish from out competing our native fish. These agencies will also have display booths with with an aquarium setup to view the fish\, technology demonstrations and printed materials. Information on controlling other aquatic and terrestrial invasive species will be available. \nWatch a video of the 2024 Hudson St. Croix RiverFest Invasive Species Control on the St. Croix. Thank you to River Channel for sharing this video. \nThe mission of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is to work with Minnesotans to conserve and manage the state’s natural resources\, to provide outdoor recreation opportunities\, and to provide for commercial uses of natural resources in a way that creates a sustainable quality of life. \nMinnesota DNR’s invasive carp program takes an integrated approach to invasive carp prevention and management\, focusing on actions that the DNR and partners can take to slow the spread of invasive carp\, minimize their impact\, and reduce the chance of invasive carp reproducing in Minnesota waters. Those actions include monitoring invasive carp in ways that enable us to respond\, prevention and deterrence\, response preparation\, management and control\, and communication\, outreach\, and coordination. Among other activities\, our program tags and tracks invasive carp to learn about their movement patterns\, monitors for evidence of reproduction\, contracts commercial fishers to capture invasive carp\, and works with partners to develop better ways to target invasive carp in Minnesota waters. More info on our invasive carp program is available online at: mndnr.gov/invasivecarp.
